I was on RYLA Course 1 2007, and the difference it made to me is still showing - I'm now at Bath University and just got an offer for a year on placement at the biggest pharmaceutical company in the UK. I know I would never have got through the interviews if it wasn't for RYLA giving me confidence and self-awareness. RYLA has been a life changing experience never before have i been pushed so hard as a invidual in a group of strangers. But all them kangaroo dips, soaked pair of clothes and muddy set of trouseres helped us bond together. Hi, thanks for your question. The main focus of the rotary youth leadership award is leadership as you can tell from the title. You take part in a large variety of tasks each demanding different approaches. The type of tasks you are involved in is not important, it is how your team work together to conquer the task set. blooming 'eck - its been 4 years since i went on ryla now and i still use things i learnt then in my everyday life now! and i still find myself saying "i can" every now and again! It changed my life for the better and i'm so glad that everyone who has been in the years after me are saying the exact same things as i did when i got back to reality!! Keep up all the hard work to Tim, Paul and co who give up so much of all the time and effort to make RYLA the best week of those lucky enough to attend!! (for talent night hahar) also to let you know i have recieved all the handbook and info etc! thankss Tim Replies....hiya Katie...No piano I'm afraid....but I can get Ken to bring an electronic synthesiser thingy, the type that was all the range in the 70's when Ken thought he was still a young guy and wore flares (even though he had lost his hair by then)..we can wire it up to the DJs system and wake them up in Hebden Bridge with the sounds of Ultravox and Spandau Ballet (sorry, am reliving my youth now!)....but that would work well so long as you know how to play it...it's always been a mystery to me. And glad you got the handbook etc...at least the system sometimes works! See you soon....weather forecast says it's gonna be a wet summer....ha! Will be gorgeous weather then!!!

hi i was wondering if anyone could help me with the information i should write on my application form to help me get a placement??????? Hiya...not really able to do that from here....the 'application form' will have been sent by you by your local Rotary Club and will have been they who have devised it prior to selection of people for them to send on the course. But if you have a good surf of the web-site it will give you an excellent overview of what the course is about and what you will get out of it and how you will be able to use it in your future development and to help others. That should then give you an excellent basis on what to cover in your application I would think. Hope that helps. Tim.

On The 28th August, 7 ryalarians will be jumping out of a plane, 13,000 feet up, with nothing but a parachute and a Red Devil attached to them! The 7 people crazy enough to do this are Chris H, Rachel S, Jonny B, Jo W, Caitlin R, Annie T, (all Course 2 2006) and Bex W (RYLA course directors assisstant). Dear All, Well it has been a while since I last looked at this website and hasn't it come on! There really is so much information on here and I would just like to say well done to Tim, Bex and everyone else who has put time and effort into it, oh and of course thanks to everyone who has submitted a report as it is only through your points, notes discussion, debriefs and experiences that people can learn. They do say that a sensible man learns from the mistakes of others... Like Ruth I too have received my invite to the reunion. Can I just say that it sounds like a great idea and I hope I can get there, will just have to wait to find out where my new job sends me in December. That said, the idea of a reunion is almost as daunting as going on my first RYLA. What will it be like? Will I remember anyone? Will everyone all be hugely successful and making their own way in the world? I hope so. So looking forward in anticipation to next year and wishing everyone much success in their life until then, Tika PS anyone out there wondering whether to apply to go on RYLA and feeling a little bit wary of it all, don't worry, just get out there and do it, the course is one of those amazing building blocks for the future, enjoy!!

Claire with your braids, YOU RULE! You were in team A... I think I was team B or D, isnt it awful that I dont remember. I remember though that you and me were LOUD claire, so we were very firmly split up and put in different groups. lol i was such a dictator - the RYLA course totally taught me how to listen to people and be a better team player! Ken, you legend I'm so happy you're still running the course. I know I'm 19 now (gosh, I was 16 when I came on the course!!) but can we have an older RYLA course like Clare suggested? Hya everybody, If laura's right can i have a lookie in PLUEEZE (insert cute face). Also I would like to say I had a great time rasing money for the wheelchair foundation, no that easy if you live in a valley :( I has dropped of at the bottom of the hill and wheel my self on to school, lol andway i got to school and back nice and safe with a few blisters but i survived and i'm fully healed. Hi all, Great to see you contributing to the new RYLA website. Can you imagine how annoyed the rest of the RYLA world is at not getting THE www address, but there again we are THE course. Wots this about me not running the course anymore? Not true, I am still the committee chairman its just that we now have some equally fine and committed people onboard who have taken over some of the tasks. Take a bow guys and introduce yoursleves. To prove the value that others see in the 1040 course i was pleased to accept a position on the International RYLA committee, so we can influence the shape of the future of RYLA the world over - I use you lot as examples of how doing it leads to learning about it and then being able to do it better in the real world - - Its YOU that are the real success of RYLA. From the 2005 course we have have chosen to support the Wheelchair Foundation again and already have rasied a substantial amount of money. There is a chance that the money we raise will be used in Eastern Europe so watch this space. Good to hear from you all, keep up the good work and don't forget to keep in touch with us. Ken

whoah what a blast from the past, though i have often thought and told many a people about ryla, this be clare, as kate descirbed with the braids, hows the geog course going? im at liverpool doing anatomy and human biology, tim has anyone else since our sucess acheived throwing you in the lake? although clive wasnt my mentor i just wanted to say hey and remind him that he is a legend and goes down in geordie history ( or at least in my books he does) oh how i miss waking up to the sounds of fog horns and i believe carmena burana..... would there be a chance of rerunning a ryla for us supposedly older and wiser rylarians we ruled the stretcher race! si, clare, sam, katye and so forth how you guys doing? muchos love clare, team A ( we ruled! in 2003 first group..) We're nearly ready to 'go live' with the website on the new server. If anyone feels like having a browse of it then they would be more than welcome, to test out the links and place entries on the message board, contact details and the various RYLA discussion boards that are on it. Check it out  If you find any missing links or something that doesn't work, please let me know. If you add anything at all then don't worry, I'll take out any 'practice' entries before I roll it out live (hopefully later this week/weekend). Hello everyone! Very Good site by the way Tim! I TOO have my sheet next to my bed (although its white!) and thankyou to all who added comments! It was good to see the pictures again, brings back memories! York Rotary Dragon Boat Races: Ive received the information pack from York Rotary and i will be sending out an email very shortly (when im slightly less busy!). To any who didnt get my initial email, do get in touch (ralph@bluebirdsmusic.co.uk or ralphjb@gmail.com). If you went on the first course in '05 then Laura Duncan also has the information (or should do!) and may get in touch with you guys shortly (then again it is Laura :)!) Just briefly, its a twenty strong team, each of whom need to raise at least 50 pounds, plus there is a team entry fee of 300 pounds. 1/3 of all money we raise goes to the York Rotary clubs three chosen charities and 2/3 to a charity of our choice! Its not a final decision (to take part) yet so we're just finding out who is interested. Hope everyone is well! Ralph
