RYLA - "The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards" are part of the Rotary International
education programs and are aimed at young adults who have demonstrated
leadership potential at their school, youth organisation
or place of employment. The District 1040 RYLA course is designed to give participants the opportunity of experiencing the challenge of leadership at first hand using a series of exercises, formal debrief sessions, discussion groups and one to one mentoring. The courses are staffed by a mixture of professional instructors and volunteer Rotarians from the District. Courses are free of charge to successful
applicants and are financed and recruited for by your
local Rotary Club. The only thing that is required of the
RYLA
Awardee is that they give their best, put in 100%, enjoy it and later give a
presentation to the Rotary Club that sponsored them. The Rotary District 1040 RYLA Team run two 6 day courses each summer, each course accommodating 32 RYLA Awardees.
Although the RYLA course is based on outdoor
activities it is not a skills learning course, applicants need not have any
previous experience or skills relating to outdoor activities. Awardees must be at least 16 years of age and not have reached 18 at the start of the course. Check out the RYLAResources pages for information on the RYLA Course for Prospective Awardees, for Parents and for Rotarians involved.
